Plain sailing- Nautical but nice
Family cruise made easy with @brittanyferries and @peugeot5008
With its stunning views, spacious cabins and live entertainment shows for the whole family to enjoy, there was little not to love about our first ever mini-cruise with Brittany Ferries.
Driving to Portsmouth was smooth and stylish in seven seater Peugeot 5008 – never for this year.
It was a fantastic family vehicle – perfect for the trip, spacious with a state-of-the-art Tom Tom Sat Nav, that helped us cut London rush hour traffic to arrive at Portsmouth Harbour within minutes of our boarding time.
The huge boot was loaded with suitcases, pushchairs, kids toys and everything you could think of for our week away in Brittany.
It was great to be travelling in style and not squashed up all together with the air con on and music blazing to give us a perfect theme tune for our journey.
Once onboard, and after collecting our overnight bag, we made our way up the lift to our sea-view cabin.
Surprisingly the sense of nautical adventure had fully kicked in from the moment we opened the door to the stylish 4 bed cabin.
We were set up for our overnight cruise from Portsmouth to St Malo with the home from home feeling of our accommodation.
The four berth club cabin had an ensuite bathroom, two bunk beds with kids safety bars, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate making facilities to get cosy at night.
Kids got their French lessons in early with a neat TV set that had both English and French stations.
With stunning sea views from our cabin, we really did have suite dreams which made such a difference when we woke up and had a four hour drive to our seaside holiday home in Brittany.
Travelling with kids, keeping them occupied is often the key to achieving the ‘happy parent/happy child’ balance.
Luckily then Brittany Ferries went out of its way to provide absolutely brilliant entertainment.
As we were chasing our energetic two year-old around the deck, we literally stumbled across the live entertainment act at the bar.
The four piece group sang magical and enchanting songs from family favourite films from Mary Poppins’ Supercalifragilistic, to a magnificent version of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.
They even threw in a haunting rendition of Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s hit Shallow from A Star is Born, that deservedly got a standing ovation from everyone on board.
Kids were treated to cinema screenings of The Lion King, as well as a hilarious Peter Pan pantomime, with plenty of slap stick comedy for the parents to enjoy too.
All that singing and dancing made for thirsty work. So thank God the food was quite frankly on fleek.
With two fussy eater’s on board, we swerved the A la Carte restaurant, and opted for the very relaxed yet plush Buffet restaurant.
With fantastic options for kids from Spaghetti and meatballs, to staples like chicken nuggets, chips and peas, we couldn’t really go wrong.
And don’t get me started on the stunning three course menus for adults.
Choosing from delicate salmon starter to the chicken caesar salad was tough – so we got both!
For mains we couldn’t go wrong with the fish and chips. The huge portion was big enough for two people.
The dessert collection was divine, with delicate French fruit tarts, light and fluffy meringues to decadent chocolate layered cake with cream. A mouse-have!
